Enuagu is one of the founding quarters of Enugwu-Ukwu, a hill-top town in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State. The community’s origin is rooted in the wider Umunri/Nri traditions of the area: early ancestors chose the high ground for safety, visibility and fertile soil. Over generations Enuagu grew as a cluster of lineages and extended families who farmed the rich upland soils and formed the kinship groups that still shape the village today.
Local memory holds that Enuagu’s earliest settlers were hunters and yam farmers who established homesteads on the southern slopes of the main Enugwu-Ukwu hill. These households slowly organized into compounds and clanship groups; their descendants now form the major family lines and age-grades of the community.
